ASSESSMENT OF THE SECRETED METABOLOME IN CANDIDA ALBICANS

Objectives:

    - Assess the secreted metabolome of C. albicans isolates in correlation with strain virulence and/or other relevant phenotypes, using metabolic fingerprinting and untargeted metabolomics/lipidomics approaches
    - Investigate by metabolic imaging host-fungus interactions and associated metabolite production
    - Perform genotype-phenotype association studies in order to identify the genetic basis for variation in relevant metabolite production
    - Evaluate the presence of selected metabolites in the bloodstream/stools of infected animals

Expected Results:

    - A description of the secreted metabolome of C. albicans related to virulence and other relevant phenotypes and its variation across isolates and during infection
    - A definition of genetic variants underlying variations in the secretion of metabolites by C. albicans
    - An evaluation of the presence of selected metabolites in sera/stools of mice infected by C. albicans
