Impact of microbiota diversity and Candida colonization on systemic candidiasis

Originally from India, I have spent a substantial part of my life in Sweden where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Biomedicine at Karolinska Institutet (Stockholm) and proceeded in the same field for a master’s at Lund University (south Sweden). During my previous internships, I have been trained with various infectious agents with the common aim of decoding underlying mechanisms behind functioning of the immune system.

I have found myself motivated to work with infectious diseases that are a huge burden on the society which is the reason fungal diseases sparked my interest. In September 2019, I joined the ‘Microbial Immunology’ group at Hans-Knöll-Institut Jena, Germany under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ilse Jacobsen as an Early Stage Researcher (ESR). In this project we aim to have a better understanding about the role of microbiota and C. albicans colonization on bloodstream infections, also known as systemic candidiasis.
