Objectives:

  • To establish and use an in vitro model based on vaginal cells, C. albicans and bacteria to mimic commensal growth, a commensal-to-pathogen shift and a pathogen-to-commensal shift
  • To elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which LBM act as protective counterparts of C. albicans by using bacterial strains identified by P1,P6 and P10, transcriptional profiling, experimental modifications (e.g. antibiotic treatment) and genetic manipulations

Expected Results:

  • Identification of protective mechanisms by which bacteria counteract C. albicans
  • Identification of bacteria-triggered, host derived induction of effectors
  • Experimental trigger of host response and analysing effectors for immune modulation
