Objectives:

  • To determine whether microbiome composition affects susceptibility to systemic candidiasis in C. albicans-colonized mice. Infection of inbred mice from colonies harbouring different microbiomes to determine the influence of the initial microbiome on susceptibility and host response (immune cell populations, cytokines, transcriptome)
  • To assess the effect of antibiotic treatment and C. albicans colonization on susceptibility to systemic candidiasis in mice. Susceptibility to systemic infection and the host response (immune cell populations, cytokines, transcriptome) will be analysed in respective groups of mice using established in vivo models.

Expected Results:

  • Information on the impact of the microbiome/mycobiome and dysbiosis on susceptibility to systemic candidiasis
  • The results will provide a basis for the design of prospective studies in humans.
